چکیده
Trephine biopsy was performed which showed hypercellular marrow space and several ill-defined granuloma lesions composed of histiocytes. Yeast-like organisms were seen stuffed within the histiocytes as well as in the interstitial space. Grocott and PAS stain revealed the presence of single, centrally located transverse septum in some of the organisms. Penicillium marneffei infection is a common opportunistic infection in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients, but intestinal penicilliosis marneffei has rarely been reported. In this report, we presented a rare case of an HIV-infected Chinese patient with intestinal penicilliosis marneffei, who was characterized by an insidious onset, initial symptoms with a mild pain in the lowe...

Penicilliosis is an infection caused by Penicillium marneffei, which is an opportunistic fungal pathogen endemic in areas such as Southeast Asia. It is usually found in patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). P. marneffei is present in soil and is also associated with bamboo rats. Patients with AIDS are particularly susceptible to infection. Thus, penicilliosis is an importan...

Penicillium marneffei (P. marneffei) is considered an indicator pathogen of AIDS, and the endemicity and clinical features of P. marneffei have been described. While, how the co-infection of P. marneffei exacerbate deterioration of the immune response remains poorly understood. Here we isolated P. marneffei from the cutaneous lesions of AIDS patients and analyzed its effects on HIV-1-dendritic ...
